Create an automatic payment plan
You can use your bank's automatic check printing and sending service to send these payments to your ex-spouse automatically each month so that you don't have to remember to do it yourself.
Only make payments or receive payments in a way that you can track
It's important that your support payments be made or received in a way that you can track and document. Rather than making payments in cash, it's always best to make them by check, for example. If a payment must be made in cash, make sure you sign or receive a receipt for the payment.
Set up a computer spreadsheet to track all of your payments
This spreadsheet should include the date of the check, the check number, the check account number, the amount of the check and what the check is for.
Make a note of any payment problems
If a payment is late or if any other anomalies develop related to payments, make a clear note of them in your records.
