Adoption Attorney in Conroe

Texas Adoption Counsel With Board-Certified Family-Law Leadership

An adoption requires more than filing a petition. Parental consent, termination of parental rights, the child’s legal status, an adoption evaluation, and court approval can all shape the path to finalization. At Bolton Law Firm, we guide families in Conroe and throughout Montgomery County through these requirements as part of our focused Texas family-law practice.

Clear communication is built into our case structure. The assigned paralegal provides a full progress update at least every two weeks, and clients are invited to ask questions or share new information as the case moves forward.

Call (936) 297-4668 or reach out online to discuss your adoption with our Conroe legal team and identify the next procedural step.

Adoption Paths to Discuss With Our Legal Team

Each adoption path raises distinct questions about consent, existing parent-child relationships, placement documents, and court procedure.

  • Stepparent adoption: These cases may require consent from the other biological parent or termination of that parent’s legal rights before the adoption can proceed.
  • Relative adoption: The child’s current legal status and any existing custody orders can shape the required filings.
  • Foster-care, agency, private, and infant adoption: These matters may involve coordination among prospective parents, birth parents, an agency, and the court.
  • Special-needs adoption: Preparation depends on the child’s legal circumstances and the documentation required for the case.
  • International adoption: These cases can involve Texas law, federal immigration requirements, the child’s country of origin, and the Hague Adoption Convention, an international treaty governing certain intercountry adoptions.

We provide legal counsel rather than placement, matching, agency, medical, or counseling services. During an initial discussion, we can review the type of adoption involved and identify consent, termination, evaluation, or filing issues that may require attention.

Types of Spousal Support

  • What Happens to Debt in a Texas Divorce?
Debts incurred during the marriage are generally treated as community debts, just as assets are community property. The court will divide responsibility for debts as part of the property division. Note that a divorce decree does not automatically relieve you of liability to creditors — if your spouse is ordered to pay a joint debt and fails to do so, creditors may still pursue you. We help clients address this risk through careful drafting of divorce agreements.
  • Can Our Custody Arrangement Be Changed After the Divorce Is Final?
Yes. Texas courts can modify custody, visitation, and child support orders when there has been a material and substantial change in circumstances since the original order was entered. Common triggers include a parent's relocation, a change in the child's needs, or a significant change in either parent's financial situation.
  • What if My Spouse Hides Assets During the Divorce?
Texas requires both parties to disclose their financial information. If you suspect your spouse is concealing assets, we can pursue formal discovery — including depositions, subpoenas, and forensic accounting — to identify and value hidden property. Courts take asset concealment seriously, and it can affect the fairness of the final division.

Texas Adoption Requirements That May Affect Your Case

Texas Family Code Chapter 162 governs who may petition to adopt and when a child may be adopted. The required documents and proceedings depend on the child’s age, the petitioner’s marital status, existing parental rights, and any applicable statutory exceptions.

Important requirements can include:

  • Termination of parental rights: This is the permanent legal end of a parent-child relationship. Texas law generally requires the rights of each living parent to be terminated before adoption, although exceptions may apply in certain stepparent cases involving the petitioner’s spouse.
  • Joint petitions by spouses: When a petitioner is married, Texas law generally requires both spouses to join the petition.
  • Consent from an older child: A child who is 12 or older generally must consent in writing or in court. A judge may waive that requirement if doing so is in the child’s best interest.

Adoption Evaluations & Finalization in Montgomery County

Texas law provides for an adoption evaluation in these suits, subject to statutory exceptions and the court’s authority. Sometimes called a home study, the evaluation examines the prospective adoptive home, social environment, and other circumstances relevant to the proposed placement.

Families may also need to assemble background information, placement records, and supporting documents before a finalization hearing. The court then reviews whether the applicable conditions have been satisfied before deciding whether to enter an adoption order.

Cases filed in Montgomery County are also subject to local court procedures and scheduling practices. We can evaluate how those rules affect the filings and hearing preparation required in a particular case.

“We wanted to make a point with a good law firm, and Bolton Law did just that.”
Ruby Bolton and the Bolton law firm really showed up for the case my wife had against her ex-husband. From her first visit at consultation to picking up the final draft, she felt like she was in good hands. At the end of all this, my wife was able to get some relief and was able to put her ex in check. We got the passport docs, got it to make it mandatory to take the kids to all their sporting events on his weekend, and his child support was reinstated.
